Gantung:2 by Nadia Khan | Book Review

      October 10, 2017

      Gantung:2 - a book I can't wait to get my hands on!

It is a sequel of Gantung (I posted a review errrr maybe more to lessons learned from the book). Generally, the author managed to answer most questions that the readers were left with after Gantung. :)

      Title: Gantung:2
      Author: Nadia Khan
      Pages: 284
      Publisher: Buku Fixi
      Publication Date: 2017

Just so you know, this book is 4 years after the first one had been released. I am totally glad that I read Gantung just few weeks ago when Gantung:2 is already available. It is hard to move on within that 4 years to know more about the plot. -_-'

I am not sure if I should write the rough synopsis as it will obviously contain spoilers for the first book. :) Anyway, the things or lessons learned that I am going to write here will have spoilers as well, maybe.

Read at your own risk. If you haven't read Gantung, feel free to skip this post and read that first ahaha then come again and share your thoughts okay? Otherwise, it is up to you :)

      back cover

      Synopsis:
After Ray made a stage performance so that Gibbs and KJ realized they were no longer living a normal life, both of them follow Ray to stay together. Ray can actually 'see' them! He is now better known as Khalil (after he turns to Islam). He actually went to Prague and studied films after he finished school.
      • The school incident happened in 2011.
      • Ray returned to the school (as in Gantung) in 2021.
      • Scenes in Gantung:2 mostly take place in 2023.

If Gantung portrays more scenes at school, this one is more about Ray's life after all the incidents that happened to them. Ray is currently a well-known film director and his first artwork managed to win an award. There are few new characters and some characters from Gantung are not in this book as well. KJ, Gibbs and 'Troll' are in the novel, of course.

Ray/Khalil is kidnapped by a guy whose identity is only known towards end of the novel. Read the book to know why he is kidnapped, who is the guy actually, what happen to both of them, how Gibbs KJ Troll play roles in this incident, what happen to Fara (Gibbs' lover) and eventually you will understand more on what actually happened in Gantung.

I mean, the timeline finally makes sense :)

      ------------------------------------------

Now, I will proceed with what I learned from Gantung:2.

      1. Free sex & LGBT and their consequences.
Most Nadia Khan's books have these elements, I am not sure her main reason to use them but they really portrays the bitter reality in our world today. Just like I shared in my review of Gantung, some people use them to have sort of life enjoyment, attract attention and some need it to survive or to threaten to survive.

On the front page of this book, it mentioned 'untuk pembaca matang' (for matured readers) and I believed it is written there not just for fun.

I am sorry if I may sound open to touch this topic, but this is something I will encounter at least as a doctor in the future. Free sex (out of marriage) totally disturb and destroy the beautiful part of the relationship between 2 human beings. The thing that should be considered sacred is now taken for granted, without responsibilities. The thing that both of them should get 'pahala' is now done with Allah's anger.

And not to forget the sin when someone kills the baby; the product. The baby is sinless and if he /she is born to this world, it will be challenging especially with people's judgement. T_T The father cannot be a wali to the daughter and it will definitely affect the family relationship - nasab keturunan etc.

What can I say, let's keep praying Allah will always help us with guidance and protection from the evil. Being parents is not an easy job, even to find a good partner to build our own family is not easy either. Hopefully, we will always use Quran and hadith as our references to live the life in the right way. Prevention is better than cure.

      2. Moving on is never easy.
People usually say that when the ruh (the souls) still linger around in this world, they may have unfinished business that stop them from moving. Well, that's what usually shown in movies or dramas too.

Can't say much about alam ghaib, I believe it exists but I hope I will always 'terhijab' from it.

      Gantung:2 Book Review

Gibbs, KJ, Troll finally leave Ray, for good and never return. It is hard for Ray to move on when he is the only one from The Musketeers to survive the incident. And yes, the survivor suffers even more.

+ Forgetting them. Does it gets easier?
      - No. And it will never will.
      + *sigh*
      - But life gets better. If you want it to be.

      Gantung:2 Book Review
Just like previous novels that I've read, the keys to move on / live the fact are... acceptance.....
      Gantung:2 Book Review
      ... and faith.

      3. Responsibilities.
Growing up, we as human beings need to realize we are carrying more responsibilities every day. No matter who we are, responsibilities are something we can't run away from - as a son / daughter, as a sibling, as a friend... even simply as human being.

      Gantung:2 Book Review
"We are responsible for every single words that come out of our mouth - consciously or unconsciously."

Sometimes, we can't help to keep talking and adding so many comments on some issues. A huge reminder to myself as well. Eventually, after too much talk, we tend to forget what we are talking about actually. Worst case scenario - false facts and maybe we said something bad behind someone's back - mengumpat. T_T

      Gantung:2 Book Review
Think twice or multiple times before we do something. Weigh all the consequences.

       4. The fine line in between.
      Gantung:2 Book Review
      Worth to ponder.

       5. The differences between.
      Gantung:2 Book Review
      Suka vs sayang vs cinta

      What Do You Guys Think?

      October 4, 2017

It should be autumn in Czech right now T_T

Just came back from Pantai Timur (again). Haha. It feels like a third home for me, both Kelantan & Terengganu. And guess what, I am going there again before 2018 comes in. :) Wohooo.

This time, not with my parents but friends instead. I took a night bus from Amanjaya Ipoh to Hentian Bas Kota Bharu (close to Tesco). Well, I guess I am getting used to express buses in Malaysia, or maybe because I am old enough that my parents trust that I can survive the trips. Super happy when I know I can now book the bus tickets online! I know it has started for awhile. Hehe.

easybook.com is my favourite so far. I haven't try any other websites though, why should I if I don't have problems yet with this one and the price is almost similar if I buy tickets at the counter.

Going out of Perak again very soon.
I am very glad I have productive days (I hope so) so far.

Some people asked I applied any part time jobs (I mean with proper working hours). Well, I would love to but not this year. I have plans here and there till end of 2017 and hope everything will turn out well.

Oh yea, what do you guys think about Grab / Uber female drivers
If you mind, please share your thoughts, especially about the safety precautions. I have just met one female Uber driver so far. Or maybe any of you who have been Grab / Uber drivers? Thank you in advanced!

Pecah by Khairulnizam Bakeri | Book Review

      October 3, 2017

I think I really need to slow down reading novels and read medical notes instead (maybe in between other books hehe). My knowledge and memories are a bit rusty after about 3 months graduating.

      But....

Let's check this book out! I bought it from Novelhut (a book shop in Ipoh that sells, buys, rents mostly preloved books etc).

      front cover

      Title: Pecah
      Author: Khairulnizam Bakeri
      Pages: 310
      Publisher: Buku Fixi
      Publication Date: 2011

      Synopsis:
Honestly, there are so many characters in this novel! And few different time zones too!

Basically, it is about 4 guys (Herman, Alan, Radi, Don) who rob a bank (specifically CIMB Shah Alam) in which the manager is Kazim. When they are trying to run away, Kazim shot Alan's thigh and this leads to Alan's hospitalization in HTAR, Klang. At the same time, an old guy named Bakar is warded as well after he lost consciousness while being treated in sort of old folks home, Rumah Seri Memori. The persons in charge of Bakar are Dr. Vivian and Lidya, the nurse.

All of them are eventually related to each other. But how?

Herman is actually a father to a daughter, Hanis and he works as a lawyer. Hanis knows and understands her dad a lot. What happen to her mum? It is interesting to figure out why and how Herman, even though has a stable, secured job can plan a robbery like this. What actually happens to him that changes him like that? And also how Herman can be in a group with the other robbers?

Another interesting parts to read are how the guys plan well trying to run away from the polices, how they hide the money the stole, what happen to them at the end. Oh yea, other than money they also rob a safety box.... but why? Why rob a safety box when they don't even have the security code?

      back cover

The plot is a bit confusing, again this Fixi novel plays with different time zones even though it can involve the same person. Like, the current life of Herman and Herman's few years younger. Just, readers need to focus on the timeline in each chapters.

      1. Alcohol and us.
Few parts in this novel portray characters with alcohol and readers can obviously see the effects of alcohol to human beings, society, health etc.

      A teaser for you.

      Alcohol kills family relationship!
Not just the anger it can cause to human, but incest (sumbang mahram) when a father unconsciously raped his own daughter! T__T What is the relationship between the baby who may be born to a father who is also his/her grandfather?!

      T_______T

      2. Health workers need to treat 'all' kind of patients.
This is a reflection and a point to prepare myself with.

In the hospital, anybody can get sick. No matter who they are, what kind of jobs are they doing, how are the family members, do they have any RVD / STD etc.

RVD is a term used to describe a patient with HIV / AIDS. RVD stands for retroviral disease in which HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a type of retrovirus.

      STD = sexually transmitted diseases.

With practices, I hope I will not be judgmental towards these patients. Same goes to criminals T_T

      ---------------------------------

Just a short book reflection I think.

This books lacks romance and comedy so don't expect them. But it offers mind blows after you figure out slowly the relationship between every characters plus the motive of this robbery. Even till the end, you may get palpitation to figure out what happen next.

Hari Rabies Sedunia 2017 - Info Yang Perlu Kita Tahu

      September 28, 2017

Tarikh ni jugalah tarikh kematian seorang seorang ahli kimia & mikrobiologi French, namanya Louis Pasteur - dialah yang menghasilkan vaksin rabies pertama dunia.

Jadinya, bersempena Hari Rabies Sedunia ni, meh saya kongsi info-info yang perlu kita tahu secara umum. InsyAllah tak masuk medical stuffs yang detailed sangat pun :)

      Semestinya kematian.

Dan rabies ni sebenarnya boleh dicegah sebab tu wujudnya World Rabies Day untuk bagi pendedahan pada masyarakat untuk bertindak.

      • FURIOUS rabies - 70%:
        • tak senang duduk / resah,
        • keliru,
        • perangai luar normal,
        • halusinasi,
        • banyak salivation (air liur),
        • sakit masa nak minum air
      • PARALYTIC rabies - 30% - bahaya jugak tapi effect tak sepantas furious rabies:
        • lumpuh bermula dari kawasan gigitan

      5. Macam mana nak cegah rabies?

      Credit: http://www.who.int/rabies/resources/animated_gif/en/

      6. Kalau dah kena gigit, nak buat apa?
Tengok binatang tu perangai dia pelik tak? - refer point #4

      7. Rabies di Malaysia.
Malaysia rasanya belum jadi rabies-free country.

      Rujukan:
      - nota Infectious Diseases

      ----------------------------

Sebenarnya dah lama plan nak share topik-topik medical dalam bahasa ibunda alang-alang sementara menunggu posting ni, kita sama-sama buat revision :D.

      Saya cuba pelan-pelan, insyAllah :)

Hopefully we can learn something from this post :)

Hiking Trip - Bukit Kledang, Perak

      September 25, 2017

A day before this trip, I told Ayah I feel like hiking lately. I miss Czech a bit too much and hiking is one of the passions I found within myself when I was in that beautiful country. Even though Czech does not have heavy forests like in Malaysia, it was still lovely to enjoy the nature it can offer.

Of course, Malaysia has its own specialties.
And hiking Malaysia hills and mountains are no joke.

      Self love haha :)

Happy 1439H - Facts about Hijri Calendar

      September 22, 2017

I haven't finished reading new books ;p so, please wait more for another book reviews :D

      So, a new year?
      Another new year.

      source - Twitter

Just like other people, I am always praying for another good year ahead. Not without challenges, as I am pretty sure life is never without them. But, I pray for better health, better mental status, better family relationship, better friendship and better strength to overcome all those challenges. Plus, a more feminine lifestyle. I am still trying my best ever since even though it still seems so hard.

Currently, a book on my reading list entitled, 'Wanita Cantik Masuk Syurga' - it is a book that I planned to read together with Mak and discuss about them while applying to ourselves. It is not just about beauty and women accessories, it also covers aurat, photography, dolls, clothes etc. Basically anything that makes a girl beautiful inside out - not only for the eyes of human beings but the most important for the sake of Allah.

“Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty." (Muslim)

Doakan Hanis Amanina jadi lemah lembut. -_-'

      --------------------------------------

Another thing I would love to share in this post is about how the Hijri calendar started, or also known as Islamic or Muslim calendar. I was reading about Maal Hijrah and came across about the history behind it.

      To simplify the facts:
      1. Months in Islam like Muharram, Safar etc already existed before Islam, just they use different type of years. For example, Nabi Muhammad (s.a.w.) was born on 12th Rabi'ul Awwal, Year of The Elephant.
      2. When Saidina Umar al-Khattab ruled the Muslims, it was difficult to fulfill the instructions (to which were most recent etc) due to the lack of years on the date. Why? Because the first 10 years of Hijrah were named after events of Nabi Muhammad's life (s.a.w.).
      3. So, they came out with the idea to make an Islamic calendar / takwim.
      4. Since most of the years used before, were started based on significant events - so, Islamic calendar was finally decided to be started from the year of hijrah from Makkah to Madinah.
      5. 1 Muharram 1H was not started on the first day of hijrah event itself as hijrah happened around Rabi'ul Awwal 1H.
      6. Hijri calendar has 12 months (all names of months have significant points behind them) - Muharram, Safar, Rabi'ul Awwal, Rabi'ul Akhir, Jamadil Awwal, Jamadil Akhir, Rejab, Syaaban, Ramadhan, Syawal, Zulkaedah, Zulhijjah.
      7. There are approximately 354-355 days (different than Gregorian calendar that most countries use 365-366days)

Muharram = 1st month of Hijri Calendar
Rabi'ul Awwal = the month of Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah

Another take home message for me, do I really remember the months of Islam? Sobsss.

For example, if someone asks about what is the 8th month, I am confident to say August or Srpen (in Czech) but it takes me a while to say Syaaban. T_T Thanks to lagu bulan-bulan Islam anyway. ;p

      Ya Allah Maha Kuasa,
      PadaMu kami meminta,
      Perlindungaan di tahun ini,
      Dari godaan syaitan durjana.

      Ya Allah Maha Kuasa,
      PadaMu kami meminta,
      Kebaikan di tahun ini,
      Berkekalan ke tahun depan.

      The sad truth.
      Improve on this, Nina.
