      Golden Rapeseed & Hiatus

      May 22, 2017

A thing to look forward in May is definitely rapeseed field! :) And it is the time!

I posted a blog post about rapeseed last two years, you can check it H E R E.

Somehow, I am still confuse the differences between canola and rapeseed. They are both plant-based cooking oils that are originated from the same breed with slightly different chemical properties. From what I read, canola is created from rapeseed after removing two undesirable components via genetic breeding.

      The 'flower' of rapeseed.

In Czech, among Malaysians we don't call these bright yellow plants as canola, but more to rapeseed. Canola is more famous in USA & Canada, even canola is combination of "Canadian" and "Oil Low Acid" - CanOLA.

      Interesting!

Last Thursday (11/5/2017), some of us decided to have a walk along the river. Studying can be tiring so much when we literally do revision all day long except walking to the toilet and daily prayers. Since the weather was nice that day, why not to have a photo shoot sessions with the rapeseed. Hehe.

Unfortunately, I am not photogenic so, you can't expect any model poses from me :p

Do you guys know what is the main product of rapeseed?

      Yes, the oil.

I think, palm oil is very limited here (I can't see any palm plantation anyway), but rapeseed oil is one of the most famous one used by Czechs, other than sunflower oil.

Here I would like to share a video on how the rapeseed oil is made. Hmm actually, I can't find the one for rapeseed but since canola is quite similar to rapeseed, I guess the steps are almost the same :)

For those who don't want to watch the video hehe but want to know how it is produced, I compiled here the steps. Honestly, I never knew that we can get many other products from these plants other than oil. Thanks to the video, I learned some new information :)

      Steps:
      1. The seeds are cleaned in vibrating sieves.
      2. At the same time, foreign materials like plant pieces are filtered out.
      3. These plant pieces can be further processed as animal feeds.
      4. The seeds are then passed through a magnet - to remove any metals.
      5. The seeds are passing through a roller mill - to crush into thin flakes.
      6. The thin flakes are then squeezed with high pressure to get the oil (40% of canola seeds are oil).
      7. The remaining of flakes are once again processed to get the oil.
      8. Flakes are then formed into animal feeds, again.
      9. Oil is then centrifuged (spin) to clean and remove any natural impurities. The natural impurities are sent to soap manufacturers (maybe to make soaps?).
      10. The oil is cooled to 5 degree Celsius to thicken the waxes. (Canola oil is originally clear, but it may contain natural waxes that make it looks cloudy).
      11. Waxes then can be filtered out and can be used to produce vegetable shortening.
      12. After the canola odor is removed, the oil is finally refined and ready for bottling.

      9 days left T_T palpitations.

A thing I can reflect from the rapeseed is a lot of components of rapeseed can be useful for human and animals. That's a thing we need to do as a human being - to be beneficial to others. Physically, mentally, spiritually and with our knowledge :)

A reminder to myself, it is very encouraged to help people but please check our priorities. If we are in situation that will not allow us to help with that specific thing, don't. Learn to say no, politely.

      Check our priorities. Lesson learned.
Take care of our own heart, if not us to take care of it, who else?

p/s - sorry, I am on hiatus. Will be back soon.

      Hamparan Rapeseed

      May 19, 2015

      Alhamdulillah.

Grad's Night dah selesai, Dinner untuk Malaysians di lokaliti saya pun dah selesai. InsyAllah ada lagi satu final exam sebelum mulanya cuti summer. Weee, insyAllah kalau takde aral, by end of May dan habis semester dah. Tapi tak dapat nak balik Malaysia awal sebab kena renew visa kat Czech ni.  -_-

      ------------------------------------

Habis kelas last week, rasa tak nak balik rumah. Kalau sampai rumah, memang terus jadi tak produktif. Masuk comforter, pasang kipas, tidur. T_T

Jadi, ayuh kita berbasikal sepanjang sungai. :D Kayuh kayuh kayuh, terkesima tengok pancaran keemasan dari jauh. Wahhh mashAllah, ada ladang rapeseed rupanya kat Hradec Kralove ni. Biasa nampak pemandangan macam ni kat kawasan luar bandar masa naik train ataupun bas HK-Prague.

Kalau kat Malaysia kita ada banyak ladang kelapa sawit, kat Czech ni banyak ladang rapeseed. Ladang sunflower pun. :)

Untuk pengetahuan kita bersama, biji rapeseed ni boleh diproses jadi minyak sayur-sayuran, ketiga terbanyak selepas minyak kelapa sawit dan kacang soya. Tapi kat Tesco sini, saya biasa beli sunflower oil - sebab dia murah. Hehe. Minyak kelapa sawit hmmm rasa macam tak perasan pulak ada ke tak.

Actually nervous nak masuk ladang rapeseed ni, sebab dia open, tak berpagar. Risau pulak kalau tiba-tiba dikatakan trespass kawasan owner ni. Masuk ikut laluan traktor, so tak rasa bersalah sangat nak pijak bunga tu. :D Memang orang Czech yang tengah cycling or jogging kat laluan tu pandang pelik je kat kami, sebab nampak sangat teruja nya. -_-'

      Tapi, hmmm.

Kita kena nikmati pemandangan cantik Allah dah bentangkan untuk kita kannnn?

it is already end of April, huh?

      Kisah BBQ Picnic Tahun 4 2015 :)

      April 24, 2015

Event ni sebenarnya diberi nama 'End of year 4 BBQ'.

Semangat betul mereka ni, padahal belum habis 4th Year lagi kot. Tapi ni BBQ picnic pertama kami, dan dibuat awal sebab by end of May masing-masing akan buat hal sendiri untuk cuti summer. Ada yang balik rumah, ada yang ke USA untuk MayoClinic, ada yang ke negara-negara lain untuk exchange program dan ada jugak yang stay kat Czech.

Cuaca spring memang tengah sedap-sedap nak hang out tepi taman gitu :) Angin sepoi-sepoi bahasa, tak hujan, cahaya matahari memang terik sampai berpeluh2 dibuatnya.

      Welcome. To. Spring.

      Alhamdulillah.

Kami satu batch ada dalam 45-50 orang. Haha, boleh tak saya tak tahu total students berapa. Tapi, insyAllah masing-masing kenal la at least nama panggilan, asal mana. Basic details. Dan kami dibahagikan ke 2 group yang akan dibahagi2kan lagi ke few subgroups.

Kadang-kadang dalam seminggu tu, saya yang group 1 ni memang tak bertemu muka pun dengan group 2. So, at least dengan picnic kali ni, meh la kita update diri masing-masing. Ho yeah, tapi tak semua datang lah. It's normal.

      ----------------------

It is hard sebenarnya nak introduce makanan-makanan Malaysia - sebab banyaknya pedas kan? At least bercili, bersambal etc. Tapi, Malaysian food dah famous jugak la kat sini.

      Nasi lemak.
      Rendang
      Kuih ketayap.
      Kuih lapis.
      Karipap.
      Kek batik.
      Etc.

I'm not the main chef of course, gaya cakap macam saya pulak yang masak. Haha.

Tapi I'm good with technical skills - potong bawang, blend itu ini, potong ayam etc. :D Bab-bab merasa bagi sedap nak hidang kat orang ramai tu, still underdeveloped lagi. Masak untuk housemates, kawan-kawan tu insyAllah okay la kot. -_-'

Good thing bila kawan-kawan dah faham halal and non-halal food ni, glad to know that they already prepare 2 different BBQ sets. :D And non of them yang offer non-halal chicken kat kami. SubhanAllah. I'm really glad to have them in my life.

This is the other BBQ place. :)

Everyone help each other untuk bakar / grill kan daging-daging semua. Dan nama pun BBQ kan, takde nya sempat nak hidang atas meja, ambik-ambik gambar makanan tu. Sambil bakar, sambil makan, sambil sembang.

Another thing yang saya tak expect diorang tak tahu ialah 'ice cream float'. Ala, yang coke / pepsi or any soda drinks tambah dengan ais krim. Like seriously, I thought it is known worldwide.

So, we showed them how to make it. Mudah sangat pun kan, letak soda, letak aiskrim - tunggu aiskrim cair sikit, then minum lah. :D  Ada yang ingat kami main-main. Haha, pelik.

Nak hujung-hujung picnic tu, semua dah tak larat nak makan, I guess. so, few boys main basketball dengan tong sampah sebagai gol. -_- hahaha, saya pun join sekali.

Dalam gambar kat atas tu, agak-agak bola masuk gol tak? HAHA

And girls, played with the cups dengan lagu When I'm Gone tu as backgroud song

Pernah dengar kan cup songs? Ni lah dia :)
Boleh skip ke 1;15 kalau nak tengok cup play tu.

Hope to have next makan-makan lagi :D
      Alhamdulillah,
      Till then, assalamualaikum.

      Companion :)

March 12, 2013 Hradec Králové, Czech Republic

      Assalamualaikum Spring!

The best feeling of the season is when you have extra companions to talk to :)

I still remember someone special once said to me when we walked together in Adr?pach, a famous nature reserve here in Czech.

"Pokok-pokok ni semuanyaaaa makhluk Allah. Diorang ni tak pernah berhenti berzikir, memuji kebesaran Allah. Kita ni pun kan makhluk Allah. Jadi, kita pun kena la selalu berzikir, ingat kat Allah selalu tak kira masa kita susah atau senang"

I love spring, really! I really appreciated the beauty of flowers that Allah has give me chance to enjoy them. The self-feeling (a.k.a. perasan -_-') assuming that they always smile to me and greet me in the morning every time I wake up really make my day :) The calm feeling that I get after a whole tired day of studying and feel like they are whispering to me, "You have done good job today!"

It sounds crazy enough to hear people talking to plants. But I know they can listen. Love them, and they will love you. Who knows, they will always pray for you too. Wah, it is a bonus!

The greatest feeling of all is when they always remind me of Him. SubhanAllah :)
